Cutting Board Gift

This beginner-level project makes an amazing holiday or housewarming gift for under $20!

Tools

  • Jigsaw

  • Clamps

  • Drill

  • Pencil

Shop List

  • Wood: 1 piece of 1x10 poplar cut to 1 foot (~$7)

  • Sandpaper: medium & fine grit (~$3)

  • Food-grade mineral oil (~$10)

  • Ribbon (optional, for decoration)

Steps

  1. Save the below cutting board template & adjust size to your preference.

  2. Print, cut out, & trace on your wood.

  3. Cut the shape using a jigsaw.

  4. Drill a hole into the handle.

  5. Sand entire surface with low-medium grit sandpaper until desired shape is achieved.

  6. Smooth entire surface with fine grit sandpaper.

  7. Wipe away sawdust using a damp cloth.

  8. Rub mineral oil over the entire piece with a cloth or old t-shirt.

  9. Apply two additional coats of mineral oil, waiting 20 minutes between coats to dry.

  10. (Optional) Add a ribbon for decoration — perfect for gifting as a housewarming or holiday present.
